Cristina "Trinity" Vélez-Justo presents "What's That Sound?!" The Impact of Quality Sound & Music in Horror
We will discuss how and why high quality sound and music provide the ultimate horror experience. We will dive into the science of perception, how the absence and presence of sound creates tension, develops pursuits/chases, and prepares jump scares; and how themes/motifs are used to anticipate the reveal of the antagonist using examples from popular horror films. Cristina "Trinity" Vélez-Justo is a music composer for film and media, relocated from LA in 2018, after finishing the Emmy's music internship and working as an assistant to a few established composers. Currently, she works full-time from Charlotte through her business, ReelScoring, scoring features, shorts, commercials, video games, etc. Trinity also teaches as an adjunct professor at UNC School of the Arts in the MFA Film Music Composition program in Winston-Salem (where she received her MFA) as well as guest-lectures at various universities, film festivals and groups; educating industry professionals on the importance of music in film and how to successfully work with a composer.
She is an active member of the Charlotte film community, an avid educator in cultivating strong and healthy professional relationships, and founder of the South Charlotte Film-Folk Meetup, and the Magnolia Film Society (MFS) - a group that supports and empowers aspiring and professional filmmaking women of Charlotte and surrounding areas.

Christina Raia is a New York City based Writer/Director and the Founder of CongestedCat Productions. She focuses on character-driven narrative projects that explore social issues through humor and horror. Her work, consisting of over a dozen short films, a web series, and two feature films, has screened at film festivals around the world and gained a large online following through multiple crowdfunding campaigns and coverage on press outlets such as Indiewire and BuzzFeed. Through a desire to support other filmmakers, she works for Seed&Spark as the Head of Education, teaching and empowering creators to build their audience and crowdfund their work. Award winning FX artist and filmmaker Ceirra Doll returns to SCFFF for her second year to do another amazing Spfx demo featuring orginal creature makeup application and Q&A. Ceirra will be talking about creature design and application as well as give helpful tips and tricks for beginners.

Ceirra Doll has been creating monsters for years. She is a self-taught makeup artist, sculptor and prop maker who’s love of horror began at birth. She takes her inspiration from Universal’s classic monsters. By day she is a mortician who takes pride in her job and by night she is also a mortician who takes pride in her job because morticians never sleep. But when she does get time to herself you will find her creating creatures, monsters and makeups to add to her demented little collection. She is now adding writer and director to the many hats that she wears.
